In 2009, Robert E. Meyerhoff and Rheda Becker made a game changing commitment to increase the number of Teach For America leaders working collectively with our community in Baltimore to create positive change for our city’s children. Because of their generosity, today we have 1,100 leaders doing just that: working together to accelerate impact with students.

Robert and Rheda believe so deeply in this work, this year they made a Legacy investment. Teach For America Baltimore is incredibly grateful for their support and will present an annual award in their name to an individual who has inspired educators to drive change toward educational equity. This year, we awarded the inaugural Robert E. Meyerhoff and Rheda Becker Legacy Award to Senator Barbara Mikulski.

Principal Miguel Cervantes del Toro (Baltimore '09) presented the award to Senator Mikulski at our 25th anniversary celebration, TFA Baltimore @ 25: THE EVENT! Miguel - who was visited by Senator Mikulski when he was a classroom teacher - shared that her tenacity and grit not only inspire him, but it is because of her determination and fight to keep programs such as Americorps, that he was able to join TFA.

Congratulations Senator Barbara Mikulski!
